Sacro-Occipital Technic is based on the principle of internal equilibrium, in that one must balance the pelvic structures (low back area- on which the spine depends for it's stability) with, and in relation to the occiput (back of the head). This is due to the fact that structural dysfunction starts at the pelvic area (low back) and is always compensated by the cervical vertebrae (neck) and the occipital area (back of the head).
S.O.T. is a gentle and highly effective form of chiropractic involving the use of orthopedic blocking to balance the pelvic structures. No force is required in this procedure. A highly specialized system of physical diagnosis is used to identify the cause of pain and/or dysfunction within the body.
The human nervous system identifies all functions of the body, normal and abnormal. The nerves act as lines of communication, starting from the brain, as sensory fibers, and returning to the brain as motor fibers. Every body function is related to a specific vertebra in the spinal column. A subluxated vertebra is a vertebra that is misaligned due to abnormal stress or tissue contraction surrounding the intervertebral foramina. The cause of this abnormal stress or tissue contraction may be due to trauma or a malfunction in the area supplied by the corresponding nerve. By removing this stress factor, proper nerve transmission is re-established.
Sacro-Occipital Technic, as with all methods of chiropractic, is concerned with correctly identifying and effectively treating the cause of the problem. Once identified, the cause or source of the pain and/or dysfunction is addressed through natural, non-invasive, rather than medicinal or surgical means. The gentle yet precise physical manipulations used in S.O.T. employ the body's natural innate intelligence to re-establish it's natural intrinsic energy flow and equilibrium, restoring internal harmony and ease, where previously there was disharmony and dis-ease.
